A plea for those of us like me who cannot have Broadband. Please, pretty please, will you reduce the size of your pictures, usually 450 by 338 pixels gives a good clear image. Instructions are available if you need them.
It has just taken me 7 minutes to look at one set of photos and as good as they were, it is just too much. I could not reply to the posting as I would have wished as we just got timed out waiting for the reply to post.
Thank-you! :) :) :) :) :)
We keep asking!!
I'll ask aswell if you like...
Hi Palastris,
I feel I might be the culprit and for that I apologise, I get quite carried away at times.
Having said that; my individual pictures are generally around the limits you mention, perhaps it is the number I uploaded that is the problem.
I would appreciate an answer to this posting if only to know it is me that is causing the problem then I can do something about it.
I would like to mention that no offence has been taken, quite the reverse, I just want to do what is best for the members and without feedback such as yours I would otherwise never know of any problem/s I may be causing.
Yours truly TG
Not aimed at you TG nor at quantity.
sorreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. if i upload pics to my imageshack website first, they auto size pics for use on message boards.
when i upload direct from my hard drive, i do resize to approx 35% of the original, but it's hard to know how big that will be.
will keep em smaller in future.
;D
sorry if it's me, i'm hopeless with computers. i paid dan the man, but i've been using photobucket to post pics, pics came out small but in a row downwards. i've tried to follow the threads explaining how to post but tend to get lost half way through. anybody want to come to my house!!

i would of said the same as u TG - have u seen the size of my pics :-[ they are
ENORMOUS
sorry everyone :-[
i have tried using image shack and phtobucket - any other suggestions please
Phew - and there was me getting an enormous complex, I thought it was only me that the finger was pointed at.
It's ok for all you 'old timers' that are IT experts, but have a thought for us novices, it's obviously my earlier post today that has caused the grumbles, but as it was my first attempt at posting pics I did have a few problems. Points duly taken on board and I will do my best to adjust the sizes in future - somehow ???
And there was me trying to believe that size isn't important ;)
Sand
ps - I'm a big girl now, I don't mind if you tell me if I'm upsetting you rather than starting new mysterious threads. I hope newbies on the allotments get better help.
i've been away practicing and deleting like mad, thanks for your help lorna, but i still cant get thumbnail photos from photobucket to go in a line. i've asked dan for a practice board for hopeless people like me in the computer/internet forum. maybe if enough people ask for one he'll oblige.
Please, please, do not feel anyone was being got at or criticised or discouraged or anything. I love looking at peoples pictures. I do not a often comment on them 'cos everyone else seems to say what I think better than I can. It is just disappointing when I get halfway through watching them appear and my connection is terminated.
I have written at various times 'idiot's guides' (oh dear, I supposes that will be taken as an insult, but I hope you know what I mean) for Downsizing pics, uploading and downloading. They are all here somewhere on the site. I can and will PM them to anyone who wants them. (Photoshop stuff, cos I have never managed to work out Imageshack!)
My daughters would laugh themselves silly at seeing me described as an IT expert. I can do what I can do through practice.
Please, please do NOT stop doing what you have been doing just because I cannot see your wonderful photographs.
do you have a photo editing programme like photoshop, image editor or similar? maybe something came with your camera?
for posting on a message board, you can resize the image to about 480x640 - either by resizing the whole image (>image> size) or by cropping and hence 'zooming' into a part of your picture.
also, set your pixels per inch at 72 - the image wont be printed, and a computer screen can only display 72 dpi anyways
then >save as a .jpg as this will be the smallest compression available. if you have photoshop, there is a function called >save for web (other programmes may have this, too) which allows for smallest compression.
the resultant image should only be about 80Kb
if posting a large quantity, it may be useful to upload to your webspace (or image shack etc) and rather than inserting the live pictures, insert them as a link? so they can be clicked and followed at will, rather than have them thrust upon you ;) (suitable if you post LOADS - i am not talking about 3, 4 images)
i hope this is helpful.
i also hope i stick to my own advice ;)
sometimes we forget in our excitement that there are poor souls out there not on broadband Paulustris. It doesn't hurt to remind us occasionally. I can remember before/and when I first moved here that they'd messed up my broadband connection and i had to suffer dial-up for the first time in years, so i understand your pain. ;D
I use Microsoft Office Picture Manager which has a resize option. It is really easy to use and - surprise, surprise - comes with Office.
Tim and Eric, you know you can get broadband free with Talk Talk (carphonewarehouse) if you move your phone service to them (on a BT line)?
It's such a good deal I'm thinking of going for it myself. We are currently with Telewest and have the whizzo enormous up to 10 meg delivery. My boys -still at home I'm afraid - are both into IT and are gamers so we need the bandwidth etc.
I don't think I could cope with dialup now. Broadband at home and at work.
Anyway that's a different question. Most versions of Windows come with some form of photo editor which allows resizing. Just have to check to see where and what it is.
We CANNOT have Broadband, not we cannot AFFORD Broadband. No-one is going to upgrade a line for 4 houses, only two if which will probably even want an Internet connection. This is a line which is often severed when a ploughing, b, hedge cutting. c ditch clearing.
And even with Broadband a picture which is so wide it will not fit on the screen is hardly a pleasant view.
no, i understand that. even in the 21st century, there are still areas of the country that can't get it. that in itself is shocking.

rofl, pmpl, et al ;D
(well, I would hate to disapoint....)
I too love the pictures, but lack the patience to wait for things to load up, even with my very slow broadband. I get the same pleasure from the small size photos posted by my dad and by others as I do from the larger files. Not intended as criticism, rather a polite request that if you want others to see please make it easily viewable by all, and if you need help to do this please ask the IT experts who are as helpful and clear on this as they are about everything else on here.
I want to live somewhere isolated enough to make broadband and mobiles impossible! As always green with envy.

Humph. I'm 28 miles from London, on the blinking tube and I can't get either c5 or digital and they have no plans for either!
(even more excuse to go to the lottie!)
Have to admit that if we did live mid-nowhere, I'd a) have an observatory and b) get satellite broadband. (cos it'd be the only way I could get hubby to move!)
moonbells (who will go and check her images when she's got her laptop in the same county as herself)
