Title: Runners going nowhere
Post by: Alimo on May 01, 2006, 12:30:44
Harumph - after sowing 30 Enorma 12th April only one has germinated !

I got the seed last year, and they were fantastic, some left in the packet - which says ok to use this year....

I've gone and got White Apollo to replace, just sown today in the greenhouse in rootrainers and pots..... fingers crossed.

Is it just me, or has anyone else had problems with runners germinating?

I put 15 enorma seeds in pots on 4th March. At first only half germinated but later all but one germinated (I thought just a case of how low/high I put them in the pots)
Beginning of April I did the same with 18 more but so far have only got 60% germinated.
My sister-in-law in Kent swears by them and actually sent me a packet as I had poor results last year. I am also trying a few Princess Di which a member kindly sent me.
I am still going to leave them a little longer (This novice is always optimistic ;D)

despite warbling about my success with germination, my second sowing of Wisley Magic runners sown on 22/4 aren't showing the least bit of interest in what they're supposed to be doing.

i'm not panicking quite yet but you'd think there would be a wee bump in the soil or something to give me hope.  the first sowing i had no probs with but did i record in the diary when they sprouted ??? did i eck as like !  Still there's still time, there's still time.

Hmm - how were they stored... Robert I think you may have hit the nail on the head.

I kept them (along with all my other left over seeds) in a tin in the house.  So they've been warm and dry.  Mind you these are the only ones to have let me down.

When I took them out, they were very dry and light - so I've probably dessicated them over the winter.....

Fingers crossed for the White Apollo - and I hope they're as delish and productive as the enorma....
