Title: Lidl growbags
Post by: Shirley on April 25, 2006, 16:09:53
The OH and myself bought 6 growbags in a Lidl's store yesterday.  At the checkout, the  assistant insisted that we removed all 6 from the trolley. So we unloaded them, put them on the belt, she scanned them individually (being incapable of scanning 1 and multiplying by 6) and we loaded them back on the trolley, then loaded them into the car.  Our poor backs! I was about to walk out, minus growbags, but my £1. coin was still in the mechanism

Grrrr >:( BUT it would still have been possible to, sweetly and politely, asked to see the Manager?

And then pointed out to him that his store's going to lose a lot of sales if the checkout staff insist on this procedure?

I routinely ask the Aldi staff to a) load stuff onto my trolley then b) get someone to load it into my car..no probs. there.

i've never had that problem with our lidl.  they're quite happy to leave all the big sacks in the trolley, look on their list and not even bother scanning the barcode.

when i was in there yesterday though, plenty of multipurpose but no growbags.   :'(

This store was in Bo'ness, and Alishka, I think it WAS the manager.  There seemed only to be one shop assistance in the place at 9a.m.  Perhaps this store has had problems with shop-lifting and smaller items being place between the bags!

Shirley, I work with/for the elderly & disabled (including myself in both categories;) ;D..in the interest of helping others, in your position I'd be writing to H.O., saying which branch you visited, date, time....and pointing out that, if it is necessary (for reasons of security and avoiding theft) all items including heavy ones, need to be lifted from the trolley onto the belt and then back into the trolley, there should be an assistant ready to...assist? those customers who require it.

Go on! Give it a go 8)

Blooming good for you, Shirley ****** (that's gold stars, btw) ;D

I'm gathering that the area isn't the most salubrious? St*ff that! Old is old and disabled is disabled......and help for those who need help is help..seems pretty clear-cut .... >:(

Thanks for pushing this forward......it's really important to get thinking changed......

Cheers! Lishka

actually Lish, from what i've seen they are both fairly well to do, or at least have well to do areas.  Mind you ........ the Crookston Lidl is a lot more upper class than the Govan one, you get some right "types" in there.   :P

Common sense should prevail and assistance given where needed rather some some bureaucratic jobsworth getting arsy    8)

i went last year and it was a truely wonderful day.  well the night before wasn't so good as it was torrential rain which destroyed one of the displays, but the amount of work the whole town puts into the day itself is just terrific.

my mate has only lived there for about a year (only another 50 to go and she'll be accepted  :P) but everyone must have taken the day off work (including us two) to be there.  we had the whole thing explained to us by a long time organiser which made it all the more interesting.

it was a real sense of community which you don't find in many places these days.

30th June this year if you fancy braving it  ;D

Said I would get back when I heard from Lidl's.  They have only just replied.

"It is our Company Policy saff request that all products be removed from trolleys, however, staff should use their discretion in instances such as this.

Must have been the dark glasses, shirts with arrows and bag over our shoulder with "swag" written on it that made us look suspicious.

Yes, MrsKP, I have been to the Boness Fair Days, and the L'gow Marches and Children's Gala Days.  Lots of fun, hard work and tradition.  I have been here now for 37 years!  I think I am now getting accepted as a familiar face ;D

i would write back immediately and say how disappointed you were that they took blah blah blah weeks to provide a banal reply but  you trust that this particular manager has now been sent on a how to use his/her discretion course.

as customer satisfaction is so far down their list of priorities, you will take your custom elsewhere in future (you don't need to of course, you can wear the balaclava next time you're in the store)  ;D
