Title: What could I use these for??
Post by: SMP1704 on April 23, 2006, 13:44:13
Here's a brain teaser for you.........

A neighbour is paving their postage stamp garden and have a skip out front.  I have already earmarked the soil and bricks ;D ;D

but.......the paving slabs were delivered in wooden crates about 18x18 and I'm wondering if they might have a use at the lottie.  They are too small for compost/leaf mould but could I use them as growing containers??  What do you think?  What would you use them for??

Over to you (she says hopefully) and expecting a wave of creativity to come whizzing over the line ;D ;D

TIA

BTW, I must retrieve everything today as the skip goes tomorrow.

To grow tatties in? Or fill with manure and grow squash,or courgette, or pumpkin, rhubarb blancher for next year, mint container, or other herbs?
Line with butyl and have a mini pond (with ramps for frogs! ;D), um um there must be a use for them........................worst comes to the worst, kindling! ;D  ;D

Yes, herb planters sound like a good idea, and after weathering, the containers should look suitably rustic?

???

Are you SURE they are too small for leaf mould? You could try filling them and planting strawberries to tumble over the sides. Turn them on their sides and use them piled up in the shed as stylish Ikea-type storage...
erm...ooooh all sorts, just DONT THROW THEM OUT!!!

Can you tell how jealous I am?!!

;)

Hi Everyone

thanks for the great ideas..........I was all fired up with plans, thought I could fit at least four in the estate.......but then..........the crates turn out to be a fraction of a millimetre to big for the boot opening, so after much turning, manouvering and muttering, I had to  :'( leave them :'( on the skip :'( :'( :'(

BUT, I did manage to get 10 bags of pretty good top soil.  I plan to sieve it before I use it in a bed.  I have enough weeds of my own without importing anyone elses ;D
