Dear Experts

I've a half-barrel currently housing daffs, crocuses some other unidentified bulbs (possibly bluebells) which will be rehoused in the front garden beds and thought about planting some crops in there once all the flowers have finished as otherwise it will just be a dead bed for the remainder of the year.

Question,  can i leave the existing compost in and supplement it with a bit of  new or should i ditch the lot and start again.  It was new multipurpose last August but will it be past it's best now ?

Hi Mrs KP

When I re-do my pots, I generally take out about half of the compost, mix the remaining with some growmore, then top up.  All of my plants seem to appreciate the treatment.  The remaining compost then goes on the beds.

cheers for the advice.  i wasn't sure if daffodils would do something to the soil to make it unusable for crops.

Don't ditrch it - even if it's exhausted then it is still a good soil conditioner so can go in your beds.  Other than that, I think I would refresh the lot - I don't use Growmore(r) you see.
