The Alphonsoes are in.
A bit late this year, but in the local s/market. Usually have to source them from an Asian shop in London.
AH yes, one of my mums most fave things. Personally they are one of few fruits I don't like the taste or texture of. I shall stock up as she is coming to us for the long weekend! How many did you buy Tim?
No1 Daughter bought them today. Only 4 - because they are very overripe - not enough to send you some!! Along with the first Evesham Asparagus
Normally, No2 Daughter brings down a whole box from London.
And then it's mango ice-cream for all!!
I noticed my allotment neighbour has asparagus just poking through.
Think I could live with a little mango icecream! ;D
Same here, my daughter had a mango last week, quite a large one, all I got was a sniff of the rind ...
Hopefully Alphonso, Curry?
So different!
Just have to mention this - the mango ended up married to tinned tuna, with peas, in mayo - a perfect combination! Plus pea-shoots & leaf salad.
Well I never got a taste Tim, so I wouldn't know. Perhaps it wasn't, I presume the stall or packaging would have highlighted that. As an aside, I checked Alphonso on google, as I had always thought it just a slang term for a mango, not realising it is the most sought after variety ...
How daft am I? A local fruit shop was selling boxes of mangoes yesterday for 50p!!! Five large mangoes for 50p. But they were so very ripe I was concerned that I would get them home and then they would end up in the bin because I wouldn't know what to do with them.
I should have asked here, shouldn't I?

The sugar free version sounds like heaven to me ... something to definitely have a go at !
But the pulp may be loaded with sugar??
