Title: Waste of a morning!
Post by: Anne Robertson on April 20, 2006, 16:29:01
After a fruitless morning shopping (Lidls had sold out of weed burners) I came home and set up a 3 tier plastic greenhouse from Asda (the only one I could find in 7 shops inc. B&Q and Wilkos) only to find that the top shelf was 2" higher than the zip opening ??? There was no way you could get plants in, what a hopless design.
I have already written to them to complain and will take this one back. Here's hoping for a years supply of free gardening stuff ;D ;D

Try Robert Dyas - they have an online store:

http://www.robertdyas.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?catalogId=10051&storeId=10001&categoryId=10083&langId=-1&parent_category_rn=10080&top_category=10080

Can highly recommend this one.

I was wondering if I was imagining it, but certainly in this area most gardening items have sold out and I'm talking basics here, like 7cm square plant pots.  If it was June then it would make sense, but mid April??  Does everyone have an allotment this year?

Thanks for that Amazin, that is just what I'm looking for.
I too have found that the shops seem to have stopped stocking gardening stuff early, I couldn't get labels either (made some now) Wilkos said they have discontinued selling plastic greenhouses.

My local Wilkinson's was selling its mini-greenhouses for half-price yesterday. Grabbed 2 for £15! Already filled them up though.

But re Ani's original post - when I first constructed a mini-greenhouse I found I had the same problem: top shelf too high. Eh?! I thought, then realised that in my mad greenhouse induced haste I'd got a couple of poles out of place and failed to put a shelf on the bottom tier.  ::)

Onionhead, that certainly isn't the case with the asda one, even the pic on the front of the box, now I've looked at it, shows the shelf higher than the opening, it was also very flimsy when set up. I guess whoever designed it doesn't have a lottie ;D

Lol - yeah Asda hasn't got a clue when it comes to gardening stuff (their seeds are way over-priced too!)  Hope you get some freebies for your trouble ani!  ;)

Ani

It sounds like you are going with Dyas (and why not) but if you have a Focus near you (assuming you haven't already been there) I purchased a Hall's mini g/h from there in Feb, it has four shelves and is extra wide - a bargain at £12.99

Thanks SMP1704, there is one near Chester so I will try there. Hope they've still got some left.
