Another "first timer" question. I got some strawberry plants from some lovely people on the freecycle site, thinned out from their patch. How can I tell which are good plants, should I pick off brown leaves and runners, and what other tips would you give for success?
For new plants I would remove the dead leaves and runners, also do not let runners develop this year as this saps the plants strength. The following year allow runners and root them to provide new plants.
Strawberries are most productive in their 3rd year and then trail off some what.
