I've always grown my toms in the greenhouse, but now I've got an allotment, and with all the talk of water shortgeges, thought I might be better growing them outside this year. So a couple of basic questions- can any toms be grown outside, or only certain types? and are they treated in the same way as indoor ones?Any tips appreciated, please!
Most toms can be grown outside - given reasonable conditions,. But N Yorks??
And to start now might be a bit iffy?
Why not check on Simpsons Seeds for plants this year - they could well have some left - & then think again for next year??
Later - I should add that you'll grow them but they'll not have a full season. But who cares?
I've already got some plants I've grown from seed- Gardeners' delight, I think. They are about 3" high. Could I plant these out after hardening off? If so, how should I prepare the soil?

Is it too late to grow toms for outside now then? Mine have been growing for a week or so but no true leaves.
Does this help??

I did all right last year with anonymous plants (probably Moneymaker) bought in the market, until the blight hit. I'm trying a range of varieties this year; my guess at the moment is that the ones that produce fruit quickest are likely to do best, other things being equal. But I'll report back later in the year.
