My peas have all been eaten by pidgeons !
What does everyone do to protect plants ?
Hi danfulton - I weave string criss-cross over the bed, close enough for them not to be able to fly through.
Apparently, black thread is even better, as they can't see it until they catch their wings in it, ane get such a scare they fly off never to be seen on that bed again!
Good luck - Gavin :)
i have found, thread and compact discs useless, pidgeons just land on your path and walk under.netting is the best bet,but you have to place it high enough over your crops, because they are clever, they learn that sitting on top of the net makes it sag and they happily peck at your peas.
I've gone with black netting - hopefully that will confuse the blighters !
Mind you it's only different lettuces in the plot now - don't know if the pidgeons are salad fanciers.
Cheers
Dan
I use old videos just break them open and the tape goes on for miles. Zigzag them between canes and it works just as well as a net and cheaper.
all the best

hi I use vidio tape if you zig zag it accross the lottie and use it taught with a couple of twists in it, it will shimmer and when the breeze gets up it humms them pigions dont like it at all. See them in the trees at the end of my lottie but they are too frightened to land.
I got strange looks from the other gardeners down there. only had this lottie two months but they can see my methord is not madness learnt that one in Milton Keynes on the lottie I had there. Teresa
A 12 bore is quite effective ;D
And if digger can knock off a couple for you with his 12 bore they`ll taste delicious with your peas
