Just had my first ever chaffinch on one of the feeders !
Shame it was the furthest one away so couldn't get a pic but I'm just over the moon.
Also had the first two great tits of the year earlier on, so i'm besides myself with giggles.
Oh happy day !
;D
p.s. why do sparrows dust bathe ? i've got two of them here now doing it and i'm not sure if they're having fun or are in distress !
;D
OOOH LUCKY YOU!!
Used to have a robin on my plot, now I have moved plots I dont see him, I miss him!!
Birds are not something I know much about, but have learnt lots on here, enjoy Kay Pee!!!!
;)
i know less about birds than i do about allotmenteering so each new day brings something exciting.
;D
Good for you. We have a fair number of chaffinches in the garden.
All birds dust bathe as a way of removing parasites from in their feathers. The grit knocks the mites etc off and as the bird shakes the nasties fall off.
wot ??? and leave them on my patio ?????? ............ rushes out with the discinfectant :o
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Oh you do make me laugh!!! Having hysterics now!!! Ahem, sorry, but the pic in my head of you with the jeyes fluid etc just made me giggle...
;D
and i thought they looked so cute ! one was there doing his thing for a good 5 minutes and i thought he'd lost his legs (or at least the ability to fly) i got all worried about him and now i find he was just de-fleaing himself.
learned a bit more today about our feathered friends than i think i wanted to ;D
My blackbirds are really fussy about their bath water. Changed the water in the bird bath three times yesterday, they took it in turns to bathe and make the water murky!!
At least yours leave the water in the bath, Lorna. Mine happily splash it out, so each bird needs a refill!
I watched one of our local crows bathing on a submerged log in my pond one day and when I looked in the pond after it had gone there were lots of red ants trying to reach dry land so I can only presume the crow had gone first to an ants nest, picked up some 'cleaners' and washed them out when done.
