Hello,
I've been chitting my potatoes for a couple of weeks and the chits are nowhere close to an inch in length, more like 1/4 inch at the moment. I was hoping to get them in this weekend as I'm not around to do this the following weekend (earliest I could get them in if I don't do it this weekend would be the 6th of May).
What to do ??? plant them out as they are or wait until then (in which case the chits may be too long and perhaps too late to plant them out.
What would you suggest I do?
Thanks,
Vaca
Get them in now if the conditions are OK. They'll grow without being 'chitted'.
yes get them in now no need to wait for chitting
Plant them out they will grow fine..cheers Jim.
Mine are exactly the same vaca, they are going in this weekend regardless. And they will grow !
Great! thanks for that - no need to worry about it then ;D

Mine went in with just short chits last weekend. If gardeners world is anything to go by it seems it doesn't really matter......
I think it's probably better to have short stubby shoots than long fragile breakable ones. :)
For those who might worry overmuch, th eshoots are amazingly resilient!
I agree with those who say that seed pots. don't need to be chitted. In fact my experience shows that it makes no difference.
