He sure is dark n handsome, I do like the Blackbird, my favourite bird really. Hope he has found a Mrs and is busy nest building or looking after her sitting on a nest. Super Pic.
;D ;D ;D ;D
Fab pics Magpie... I love blackbirds too. Not only are both Mr and Mrs a handsome couple their song is devine too.
We have two male blackbirds, who appear to be sharing the territory of our garden.
One is nesting in the holly tree, don't know about the other, but the boundary is the pond.
They are really entertaining to watch when 'patrolling' their patch.
I love blackbirds, they have to be my favorite birds. Great to have around in the garden. I have 2 pairs nesting (I guess) in neighbouring gardens that regularly visit the garden to feed and bathe in my birdbath.
I hope these pairs are suceessfull in breeding this year. the last pair to nest in the garden itself failed becuase of magpie attacks.
Magpie. Love those pics. I have a pair of blackbirds visiting the food table and I am almost sure they are nesting in my conifers again. I only have a digi camera and can't get near enought to take pics of the birds.
Our blackies successfully bred 5 young last year and their antics had me in stitches.
Debs
but not very tall...
Ma had a very, very loud blackbird in her old garden who used to love hanging around/nesting in the hawthorns. Quite miss the raucous chattering as he marshalled all others into line!
I saw something startling on the way to work the other day - a rather shocked looking blackbird dropped like a stone out of the tree in front of me on to the pavement.
It was swiftly followed by an extremely raucous starling, who proceeded to attempt to beat seven shades of goodness knows what out of said blackbird (who was putting up a reasonable fight I have to say)! :o :o
after a bit they separated and stalked around each other like boxers, before flying off back into the tree.
I'd love to know what they were fighting about ...
boys eh? ::)
Seen any signs of your blackbirds nesting yet?
I spotted one of our local females a couple of times with a beak full of nesting material. That said we have a couple of pairs nearby and i do wonder if the other pair are abit ahead of the others and have nested already, since i only see and hear the male and there is no sign of the female. So the one I saw yesterday may be a bit behind in nest building.
