Title: Multiple uses for roof felt!
Post by: glow777 on April 08, 2006, 08:49:10
Just got a load of the thick mineral backed industrial roof felt as off cuts from work. (about 4 meters X1 meter X 15 pieces). If you can get some of this it looks brilliant stuff.

So far

1. to roof sheds! roof & floor.
2. great non slip paths
3. the stones ar so sharp im going to use them in small squares with a hole in the middle in my g/house around toms etc to stop slugs
4. turned over thy will make good root fly protectors for growing cabbages etc

any more ideas Ive got oodles of the stuff

Hi glow,

You might be able to re-distribute some to plot neighbours who can`t obtain or transport it for re-roofing their sheds.

Zen of allotmenteering ... sharing your good fortune with neighbours brings many rewards ... (want some beans mate? how about some courgettes? )

although you have already said it, it is great for paths

one of the paths in lottie site had this stuff on. all the others were always slippy and fell away in the winter, this one stayed perfect. even with a thin layer ofsoil on the top it worked great and even grew a thin layer of grass that never needed cutting cos of the thing layr of soil

then some new tenatns cam,e in and ripped it up and are yet to replace it, so ahve been left with a soggy mess at the moment!

thats very intersting  glow777.  do you work in a roof felt making....factory? Is it unusual for them to get rid of such good sized offcuts or could anybody blag them from somewhere that they use them. if yousee what i mean. What i mean is where can i get some. for free. ;D :P

I actually work in IT - but the buisness has a huge factory, wit a huge roof area 3 x footie pitch +.  I think there are so many offcuts because the roofers use 1 roll per run and cut off the spare without thinking to use the offcuts. Their loss my gain!

thanks for the tip about the anti-slug device.  I've got a wee bit left from the shed roof but it will be enough to do the greenhouse (when it's finished, snow stopped play today).  :o

Saw this in old gardening book, only as cylinders around plantlings. Anyone tried it?
