I JUST SEEN MY FIRST SISKIN
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
A month ago on the goldfinch thread i said i had never seen one... and there he was 3 minutes ago on my feeders, and taking a drink... sorry no photo but will grab the camera and hope for the best he comes back.
He was so bright i couldn't miss him.

Aren't they lovely 'neat' little birds. Hope you manage to get a pic of one. One sat still for me last year while I took its picture. They are not as jumpy as some garden birds.
;D ;D ;D
I am very pleased for you Pakaba. Now that he has found your feeders he will be back I am sure and you may find he brings a few mates along too. ;D ;D
OOOH I do hope so Pauline :)
I have now managed to get a photo, the feeder is quite a way from the house, fine for my binoculars, but not the zoom on the camera, so as my 3 year old would say 'i played sneeking' I crept out the front door, around the side of the house, into the back garden and managed to sneek up on him and take a couple of fairly terrible photos. As you said Carol he wasn't too jumpy, just more interested in the niger seed :)
I have now finally sent Dan his donation so will have to sit and wait for him to authorise my Pics facility.

When do Siskins stop feeding on Niger seed and sunflower hearts in particular and also whole peanuts and home-made fat cakes ? I still get up to 50 (seriously) every day on the feeders.
Also 5 Goldfinches still feeding on a daily basis.
Something quite surprising was the appearance yesterday of a pair of Yellow Hammers for the first time. They picked up seeds scattered on the lawn. The male has a wonderful yellow head.
Good grief TS thats a he** of a lot of Siskins. You must be near some woods are you? They will go soon unless they all decide to breed over here. They are migrant visitors usually.
I get the Yellowhammers as well, male n female. She is quite dull compared to him with his bright yellow 'hood'. There is a 'yellowhammer' thread further down from me complete with picture of one.
Try and keep feeding them all until the breeding season is past. There is a lack of natural food out there and they are dependent on all our feeding stations until there is more seeds etc. out in the countryside.
