Title: Sooooooooo excited!
Post by: Susie Snowdrop on April 01, 2006, 18:10:31
Hi All :)
For the first time ever, I am going to try and grow some veggies in pots :o  I've only ever grown toms, peppers, cucs before so this is a whole new ball game to me!
Any tips or advice will be gratefully received as, no doubt, I'll have zillions of questions to ask when the time comes ;D

Susie. I am the same as you. Have only grown Runner beans, cues and toms. Have got a small area where I am trying some veg this year I think I will also put some in pots.
Good luck :)

I'm going to be doing the same.  Lots and lots of container veggie gardening, in as many pots as I can find.

My portion of a friend's allotment is only 4 beds, and my garden's all lawn at the minute, so till I can sort the garden out, then it's containers all the way for as much as possible.

I keep going back to KwikSave to buy more plastic troughs/pots at 50p or so a go.  They might not be the prettiest things in the world (though they are terracotta or green so they aren't the ugliest either), but they'll do for me.

At the top of the forum screen you will see a row of buttons, one of which is labelled 'wiki'. This is an interactive database that is updated all the time by members, with loads of useful info ...

You have a question, the answer may well be in there ...

The Wiki is a database run by all the members of A4A,  If you have a good idea, post it first if there is a good response then put it in the wiki.  The idea is to build up a database of knowledge.  If you look at the top of the page, there is a row of buttons, one is marked wiki. Click on this, then on ' methods of cultivation ' scroll down - container growing.

I'm rapidly becoming a container freak - 8 raised beds. Same thing, really?

ha!you took the words right out of my mouth tim! :)

i was just going to say the same-i am a total convert to raised beds(we have too many huge tree roots just under our surface) and biiiiig pots-i grew tomatoes in a giant tin bath last year surrounded by parsley-when they were finished i grew salad leaves under bell cloches which were very productive-the leaves didnt grow in jan and feb but the new batch i put in are already up a couple of inches ...
i also grew tumbler tom in hanging baskets-huuuge crops we had!

Ditto Dan2

Ran out of space in the garden so taking over the back yard with pots this year.  And it's just outside the kitchen door so can't get any fresher.

Kitty, did you drill holes in the bath for drainage?
