a bit of bleach and water or Jeyes fluid.... or something else, ive never done this before, but ive read the threads and will do this year, many thanks.
nothing I prefer to have pots untreated by chemicals
i use hot water and a babies steemer or hot soapy water seems to work for me
Dishwasher worked well last year, this year have run outta time and it is the just ignore the dirt method! :o
Doris, thank god for that, i feel so guilty if i've missed a pot.
:P
Very rarely disinfect pots although if they're that bad, I will wipe em out with a bit of rough sand but usually let the rain clear them. 8)
Love and crossed fingers! ;D
I don't disinfect, just use washing up liquid and wash like dishes (good for getting hands clean after weeding).
DP :o :o IN YOUR DISHWASHER?? Yours must be a good deal tougher than mine!
Of course Sarah! You mean you don't have the "sterilise plantpots" cycle??? ;D :P
Used to wash them all in Jeye's fluid but don't bother with much other than a rinse out these days. Cant say that I have noticed much difference or had any problems (keeps fingers crossed) ;)

:-[ cheap german dishwasher grrr. But it does cook a whole salmon nicely over two hot cycles ;D ;D ;D
How come yours is cheap? My german dishwasher was jolly pricey - although very efficient I must say and so quiet you'd hardly know it was there. I've never tried cooking salmon in it although I had heard you could do so. We have a fish kettle so use that instead. You get a fine kettle of fish. ;)
Anyone who has never lost anything through damping off etc should be very grateful. It costs nothing to be 'safe'. It costs a lot to lose your crop. There is much talk here of seedlings appearing & flopping over.
Commercial growers cannot afford to lose theirs, & they will always sterilise - or, at least, use a fungicide.
So what do you use, Tim?
Never have and never will, any bad organisms attached to a pot will be balanced by the good ones.
All comercial growers I've worked for throw away used pots etc. and replace with new ;)
Same thing in the end? No wonder the plants cost so much.
Thought that would stir you!!
Should I say that some growers use eg Cheshunt against damping off?
Lishka - I use Jeyes or Armillatox - or Citrox if & where I can afford it!!
I have to say that I've been a bit careless this year, using some unwashed pots, & I've had my first seedling collapses for yonks.
Not that that proves anything?
They steam sterilise pots used for micro-propagation, but I'd guess these aren't used pots anyway!
I find its a good winter job, washing out pots in hot water in the back garden on a freezing cold day - keeps the hands warm :)
