Now the weather is warming up I want to start using my nice new slug traps. (from Lido's)
Is there anything other than beer/lager/stout I can use, it breaks my heart to think of it going to waste on the slugs and I never seem to have any left.
PS how often do I need to refresh the traps

using oatmeal
Do you have a friendly landlord you could ask for the contents of his drip trays behind the bar.
If you gave him a 4 pint milk bottle to fill up it should last a few weeks and the slugs wont mind the beer cocktail.

Or you could try using milk. Never tried it myself but I've heard that it's supposed to work.
you can buy the big plastic bottles of the cheapest homebrand beer available. these dont cost too much. The yeastier the better I'm told.
Milk sounds interesting but wouldnt it go sour.
We use small plastic containers with lids such as cream cartons with a hole in the side
I wonder if you could use yeast in a sugar solution with some grains, and keep this brewing away in the shed, and top it up as you fill your traps?

You could always pick the slugs out and use the beer for the purpose it was intended! Having once drunk the entire contents of a Watneys 'Party Four' it can't taste much worse than that!

YUK! :o
You must have been desperate. I don't know the stuff, but when I was starting to drink, Watney's Pale was a byword for bad beer.

A friend of mine living in Hythe used to get free trips to france working for Eurotunnel. She bought ridiculously cheap 'slug beer' (which she also gave to the gardener) (unslugged :o).
