Title: March Hare
Post by: Paulines7 on March 29, 2006, 19:50:55
I saw this hare from my window today and walked very quietly outside with my camera.  I managed to get one picture before it saw me but then sight of me made it scurry towards the top of the field.   :D

I see hares in the fields most days - much more often than I see rabbits.
Depends where you live I think - they have almost disappeared from the West Country, but are much more common in East Anglia.

They have an amazing turn of speed - I'm sure they could outrun a horse over short distances - well done for getting a photo.

They've always been scarce in the West Country; I lived in Cornwall for 8 1/2 years back in the '80's, in what would have been good hare country anywhere else, and only saw two the whole time.

I always think about Hartley whenever I think about hares. Wonder if they are all little ratbags like he was?! ;D

It is my mission to see a hare this year!

We had one residing on the plot last year - ran clean through my hands when I was weeding!  Didn't half make me jump!  They were clearing back some of the common - coppicing the woods and trying to drive the deer away from the main roads, and the hares moved with the deer....only a hell of a lot faster!

Great photo Paulline!
