Title: My new toy
Post by: Curryandchips on March 28, 2006, 17:54:50
There is a perpetual battle raging on my plot with the weeds, so an effective hoe is a valuable tool. Our secretary has a stirrup hoe that I was rather impressed with, except for the price ... So I made my own. I trialled it this afternoon after work, and found it to be very impressive, it will even attack clumpy grass, and cuts on both forward and backward strokes. A formidable weapon ...

I know what Luke Skywalker felt like with his light sabre now ...  :)

Well I tested it on a row of failed celeriac, supersprout. I did not need much effort, pulled towards me, tops were sliced off, pushed back, slices of celeriac flying everywhere, pulled back, more slices. ... So I know it can make chips while the veg are still in the ground  ;D

I like Roy's super- refined dual-purpose veg and cheese slicer for yer on-site sanches the best , but is it made just for vertically challenged people to use, or is there a multi-purpose extension pole attachment to it? And if so, what else does the extension pole fit? The Wife's washing line perhaps?

Deffo a Vote for the Second City Son, tho.

thought you might like to know that Wolf make one . It has a self sharpening serrated edge , comes in two widths and you can fit various sized poles on it . Mine is around 15 years old and still going strong !
Only had two new handles and one new head - only joking !
It is a super piece of kit , the same handle will fit all the other bits in the range as well .

Erm may I make it clear to everyone. This tool you see here is purely a home made version of a proprietary product. I made my own because I have the practical skills, and I enjoy making things, including the problem solving side. If I were to make these for other people then I would need to pay royalties for the patent on the stirrup design. Also I am seriously overloaded on the time front, so it is not realistic. You can buy a far superior product from various sources I gather, my object is not to compete with these, merely to share my experiences and perhaps inspire other people to do things.   :)

I could, but my stirrup thingy is a lot better, it can also be used to flip burgers on a barbeque from 6 feet away  ;D

Anyway, what would a cowgirl want with a cheese slicer?

Be bold and ask him Lorna, but be prepared for evasiveness or a more blunt retort ! :D  My weed weapon took me a few weeks of lunchtime tinkering at work.

Good luck!

Have you ever tried flipping cheese burgers on a barbeque? Makes a real mess, hence it is best to be stood six feet away ... my weed weapon is the perfect flipper ...

So why can't you'n'Brummie's Best get together and make interchangeable heads with his misses's broom handle, then?

If you hold the thing and let the stirrupy bit dangle it makes a dinky little swing for dinky little things, and, if the dinky little thing having a dinky little swing makes you go "eeeeeewwwww" you can hold it from six feet away until it has finished.

My equipment does have interchangeable heads already Alishka ... I thought of that one when I designed it ! All I am lacking now is other heads to put on it ...
