I have been very happy with Red Fire, having tried a few different red ones before settling on these. My lettuce crops now tend to consist of little gem and red fire in the main.

amphy - at what time of year were those photos taken? All at the same time?

And do any survive into the winter?

Yellowleaf, aga? Yes - remember my photo - which is now in the catalogue - of the 4' lettuce!!

Ooops... the pictures aren't mine, they are courtesy of google image. I am a photographer, so if I had taken the pictures they'd have been far better.  :P

Tim: We sowed into late autumn, but had eaten everything by winter itself, so I am a afraid I honestly don't know if they'd survive into winter. You can't grow much in winter at my allotment, as the deer get far more aggresive in their food foraging. In summer a simple piece of net keeps them off, in winter they pull, rip, trample anything in their way.

Is it true that bunches of human hair dissuade deer?

Yes, foxes too (though these urban types probably don't care). I need to get some more hair from the hairdressers, but I am very shy.

Apparently human urine is good too.
