Title: Dog Roses--where to buy?
Post by: dingerbell on March 23, 2006, 15:24:51
I've got a rather unsightly wire fence on the edge of my allotment and I would like to cover it with something pretty and prickly. Can I dig up wild "dog roses" or is that a no-no? If not, any idea where I can buy plants to grow?  Thanks....dinger

I think I read somewhere that it is illegal to dig up wild flowers. However, I also think that taking cuttings is a way round that problem. I guess it depends on where you would be taking them from!

You can get them from Buckingham Nurseries at http://www.buckingham-nurseries.co.uk/acatalog/product_10286.html .

Yeah, I'd frown at anyone digging up wild plants. They're cheap enough to buy on eBay. (I've just bought one!)

Thanks, the Buckingham nursery link was great. I'm going to plant alternate Dog Roses and Blackberries to create a prickly, pretty and edible hedge.... ;D
