Title: Potato blight?
Post by: kippers garden on March 17, 2006, 18:16:43
I planted some potatoes ('Nicola' from marshalls) in the autumn, hoping to have spuds for xmas.  They grew lovely for about 6-8wks until I covered them with fleece to protect from frost.  Then they developed what looked like blight and died before any potatoes were big enough to eat!  I was dead disappointed with them but the chap on the next allotment reckons it was due to the moisture under the fleece (I thought fleece let air and water in/out).

I only took on the allotment in June 05 and i've never grown spuds before.  Can anyone advise?

When did this happen? My guess would be frost.

This happened before the first frost in Leicester.

1. Can't believe that fleece could be the culprit.
2. Can't believe blight at that time.
3. SO??

Jim Shead, waterways photographer and writer, records a frost in Market Harborough on 17th September 2005.
