- while your lottie thaws out?
You may have glanced at the 2GvSAP forum that I mentioned earlier? Well, this 'sim' was made by it's creator, an American, entirely from information, photographs & logbook extracts posted on that forum. A nice little present for me.
And I thought it might add colour to your snowbound weekend?
On 9 May we preview the professional 'documentary' of the campaign being made over here.
If you do view this one,
DO HAVE SOUND WELL UP & USE FULL SCREEN - the inner icon at top right of the screen.

Thanks Tim, for the past and for sharing
Regards

Tim, that is amazing, I have just watched it and promised my boys they can watch it tonight when they get in as they have to go to school now!
It must be so strange to watch film of your own flight so long ago. The computer graphics are amazing aren't they to be able to reproduce it like that?
When the documentary is to be shown on TV can you let us all know? It will be so much more interesting being about someone we know.
Same as Mike, Thank you for sharing that with us and all you and everyone else did.
Before I forget - the song which sets the scene so wonderfully is by Ron, who's about 90 now, & has retired to Canada.

I thought that the theme music was well chosen too?
Gotta wipe my eyes. Powerful stuff Tim. Lotsa love, Lishka x
No free lunches, I'm afraid!
Although it's being done professionally, it's privately financed - that means, as I understand it, a DVD at whatever cost.
Wow Tim that is amazing. My eyes welled up,I can't put my finger on why.
What is the theme music? It fits extremely well.
Tim, That was so moving. How amazing it must be for you to see it on the screen. Thank you for showing it to us. busy_lizzie
Tim, thank you for letting us have a glimpse into your world that was. As with Heldi
QuoteMy eyes welled up,I can't put my finger on why.
I'm going to visit Ron's site as well because his song made me smile! Thank goodness for the internet, lets us share good things we might never have thought of checking out - more good than bad on the www I reckon.
Band of Brothers, Heldi. A nice idea!
Do I remember that song as an old WW1 song too, I think I heard it on the film Oh What a Lovely War?
Brian
Fan-bloody-tastic! Wow! I've saved it to my computer.
Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for sharing Tim, very moving.
amazing-and moving.
Thank you Tim, for sharing that clip with us wonderfull. I am so proud to have you as an acquaintance. Please tell when it is on TV, just amazing after all this time a very moving clip to watch , lovely music fits nicely. All the best Mary.
Tim , tears welling now, I look on you as a great friend even though I have never met you in person. Am going to read all about your friend Ron later and email Him as well.
Once again thanks for what you and your generation done for us. And hope someone is looking after all your friends who were lost doing their duty in the war.
God bless you Tim.
PS - I have never met Ron but Pete, who put all this thing together, & who last year was washed out of New Orleans, found him somehow. I mailed him to ask if he minded me copying his song. He said that he would just like acknowledgement.
And please, if you must weep, weep with me - for most of my group near the end did not survive the war in the Desert..
That's the problem with war, people don't survive it. It's not just people killed directly either; we lost more of my wife's family to stress-related diseases than we did to rebel activity during rthe Sierra Leone war.
Tim. That is a wonderful clip and as others have said.. so moving.
I was only 11 when the ward ended but I remember my Dad who was ex military WW1 looking up at our planes and saying "Safe journey boys"
Thank you so much
Lorna.
A fine tribute to brave men
Robert - know what you mean. Been there.
Oh, & later - to show no prejudice - also to Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Senegal, Mauritania & Algeria.
Excuse the swearing but......
BLOODY FANTASTIC!
Not only the production of the clip but also to you and all the other HERO's who mean we are here now as we are.
I have a map at home, drawn by my paternal grandfather (who I only met once, not that I can remember as I was only months old at the time) showing where all the doodle bugs got shot down over his farm in Sussex. Indeed I have stood in the craters left.
And many a time my father talks about watching dog fits over the South Downs when he was a kid.
Thank YOU
Jerry
Thanks Tim....brilliant!!....
I'm from Sussex and remember the stories of the South Downs dog fights too....
Bel
When were you in Sierra Leone - I imagine during the war? Did you get any further than Freetown?
I have heard many times about the Doodle Bugs over the Isle of Wight, and my Mum can still crouch to the ground involuntarily if a plane flies over very low, she gets very embarrassed but can't stop herself, it's very sad to see.
Tim. I do weep with you. I am awestruck by the bravery and courage. The fact that the job had to be done and it was. I feel pride. I do think about the people who were lost. It is why I have field poppies in my garden. For both wars.I think about the mothers, the wives, sisters left behind, since becoming a mum myself and watching my son and daughter play those thoughts have become even more pointed. I wonder what my Gran was doing when you were doing your flying? Where was my mother? Where was my Grandad?
I am not a royalist,I'm not capable of holding a great political debate but I am patriotic. I believe in us and I think we are strong and courageous people. I think we all have the lion within us. I hate all the doing down of ourselves that we do. We should have a sense of pride in ourselves. (I don't want to sound like I think we are perfect because I don't.)
I will never forget what yourself and others have done to win us our freedom. My son and daughter will know too.
I'm also awestruck by flying! How does it feel? What is it like to land, what is it like the first time? Flying for pleasure, what is it like? I watched a stunt flyer in a bi-plane flying over Alnwick Castle,it was breathtaking. I watched and I understood why people fly,but at the same time I did not,it looks so scary, are flyers crazy, what makes you do it,and then do again and again??!! Could be the makings of another thread...just to get my flying questions pinned down.
Helen x
Robert (thank God for the peace, not much scope for heroism during that war) & Helen - I'll PM = Tim
Thank you for sharing that with us,
Vony.
Just wanted to add as everyone else, thanks.
regards
Matt
Thanks because of men like you tim my generation can life in freedom, thanks a lot of that.
Thank you Tim.
You're right Tim, no room for heroism in that lot at all. Not with young kids being filled up with cocaine and forced to go round chopping people's hands off, starting with their own families. I knew one of the warlords responsible when he was in exile round the corner from here, plotting the next coup. All he cared about was becoming president and getting hold of the diamond wealth, and he didn't care how many people got killed in the process. The best thing I've heard for a long time is that Nigeria has agreed to extradite Charles Taylor, the man behind it all, as far as the world knows at any rate, to stand trial. There has to have been someone behind him and his lunatic schemes though.
The big problem is, all the corruption which created the problems in the first place is still there, as bad as ever.
Words can't express...........

Yesterday one of the members posted how the site was once again friendlier like it used to be in the past, I wonder if that was due to the absence of certain members who have started their own site? Pity they didn't stay there. One of the joys of the new layout is the ignore button, I've just used mine.
