I was just thinking the other day how much other people pay for renting their plots, the allotment site down the road from mine charges £12.00 more a year than mine which I thought was really reasonable at £15.00 per annum for a full size plot. There are 60 plots on site which less than half are uncultivated and vacant. We can have a shed to be (either burnt out or stolen :o) and lovely little shop onsite which is £2.00 a year and 25% discount off goods. All in all a good deal ;D
For a general idea about rents have a look at this thread GG

mine is £16 / year
We pay £47.64 a year for our council run allotment (244 sq.m) Facilities: water, society shed/shop. It seems quite a lot compared to other allotment sites, but we're happy to pay it, it's a lovely plot, we've only had it since November 2004 but been really lucky, already had a shed and a greenhouse installed, the land however hadn't been cultivated for years and been used as a dumping ground, it took a lot of clearing and still has a lot of work to be done.
£34.50 a year, for which we get absolutely nothing, apart from councillors moaning about somebody leaving taps dripping.
Geoff.
£15 per year. Water on tap. Nice lady at council
I pay £3.50 per year, must be because its private owned, all allotment holders have share certificates. So I assume that if they do sell the land then all share holders would be entitled to a cash payout, something that I hope doesnt happen for years
Bargain. Mine is £32.50 for which the council clear away the rubbish pile occassionally and we sometimes have running water - though it has been off all over winter. Has reminded me to find out when it comes back on actually....
We pay £24 a year, no water, no shed, no greenhouse. :(
But we do have a stream - its really pretty! :) If we wanted water and buildings we would have to join a very long waiting list. Just glad to have a little plot to call our own. Other lottie owners are glad we are there as it discourages the council from trying to build on the site!
mines £30 for the year and £5 deposit on the Key for the main gate.
;D
£15 a year per plot. Water on tap. Rotovators etc available to borrow. No shop. No toilets.
£4.06 (odd amount) a year, the plot is owned by the parish but comes with no running water (not unless you count the stream running through). Bargain!!!
Does anyone have a plot in wolverhampton ??? ???
Not quite, got one in west brom, near Sandwell Valley. Shop, Water Skips 1 - 2 per year. Manure delivered. Lots of lovely friendy people, ;D
Oh yes and its £15 per year.
I have a half plot, which costs £15 pa.
There are two allotment sites in the town, both next door to each other. One is a private allotment association the other is the town council, with whom I have mine.
The site is small, only 17 plots, and was created in the late 1950's. The site used to be an orchard, two old trees remain.
There are several stand pipes on the site (one directly next to mine, which is convienient), but no other facilities exist.
No plots available, I had to wait 18 months for mine.
Clifford
mine is £16 for the year have tap near by and communal free manure ( not that i need it yet) looked at one owned by the parish council and the rent was £8 didn't go for that one as i wanted a shed and they said no :'(
loads of allotments in my area up for grabs :D
MIne is £16 a year. Our land is owned by the convent next door. Anyway we have running water, sheds and greenhouses on all the plots. Mine have been cleared and dug over for me when I took it over.
My new greenhouse was built and completed for free last week.
So we get a very good deal.
£10 a year for ours - but as half the allotment land has just changed ownership (it's privately owned) we expect the prices will go up this or next year. not yet paid for 2006
£3.50 per year for half plot. Owned by a charity. No rules and regs really apart from no trees. No water, no toilets, no security. No shed - but I can have one if I want - and I do so want!!
I pay £48.50 for mine and get a tap right at the end of my plot!. I've had my plot since last Dec and just taken on the overgrown one next door aswell!. Although I do confess to be completly obsessed and in love with my lottie and cannot wait for my first summer this year on my own bit of England!! ;D ;D ;D
Three pounds per plot. No running water - apart from ditch, no security. However, we can have sheds, plant trees and other permanent plantings and are surrounded by idylic countryside so zero traffic noise or pollution! Lovely place, the garden of Eden dontchano!
Ours is £20, but we get quite a lot for that. Security fence and gates, store, toilet, running water (when the handpumps work!), concrete paths, and the association run their own composting so dirt cheap bags for us. The store is dirt cheap and sells more or less everything including second-hand tools. Sheds ok, trees ok within reason - more or less anything ok within reason. No nagging if plot is untidy, although some laughter if plot is chaotic. :-[
Ours is £21.50 (reminds me - got the bill last week and haven't paid yet :-\)and for that we get security fence (round entire site not individual plots), gate onto site, site shop, running water, skip a couple of times a year (and if you don't get your stuff into it in the first hour, you've no chance!) and 'maintained' paths (i.e. grass cut twice a year)
We're allowed to put up sheds and greenhouses but no livestock allowed. Quite well run site with regular committee meetings open to all and no hassle from site secretary unless things are totally neglected for months when a polite (I believe - never having had one!) letter comes out requesting the plot is tidied.
It's a big site with plenty of available plots
Plottie :)
£26
Water butt and tap at the end of it.
£25 or thereabouts. Water trough, secure fences, shop, manure, pallets and sheds.
not bad for 20 miles from London.
£44 in Isleworth c/o LB Hounslow. We seem to be the forgotton plot. good in someways - we can just get on with our plotting, but on the other need to hassle the council for everything e.g. annual skip delivery, vacant plots, turning on the water, sharing the woodchips. I even have the allotments team number in my mobile ::)
No loo or trading hut but can have sheds, g/h's and trees.
Doesn't seem to be a problem with vandalism (touching wood) but the local children have scrumping down to a fine art. Last summer two children were challenged about being on the site (carrying an empty plastic bag) They said their Mum had sent them for some runner beans and potatoes :o :o
Is that the most expensive annual rent so far - given the lack of amenities??
I pay £35 per year (fenced and with water supply). It's owned by council but they do not do anything at all.
The parish council doubled our rent this year >:( its now £10 a year ;D
Only one tap about 100yds away, no sheds allowed - but for £10 i'm not complaining.
£29 plus got first 6months free as a new tenant (may to dec)
And we actually got some veg out of it too
Ours is a 'secret garden' on private land owned by the church, who take nothing for it but supply running water and electricity and secure storage.
The six allotmenteers (all women) pay £20 each to 'the boss' (one of the six) to pay for hedgecutting, hoses, waterbutts and compost bins and any repairs etc. Most have sheds but it's too small for greenhouses. Grow what you want apart from tall trees. No hassle and no committee. Bliss! :)
£15 p.a. for a half-plot. Decent sized, though, we've got eight full-sized beds and a greenhouse. The site is secure, has a hall with a kitchen(!), real toilets, communal areas, skips a few times a year, running water via several standpipes. Nice place. :)
Bill paid today!! Full lottie free this year as it was so overgrown, when we took it on. Half lottie £2.50!! No water or loos etc, but we can do anything we like re planting and sheds etc.
mine is £11.50 for half a good size plot. We have running water but no shop or allotment society as is owned by parish council who impose no rules or regs about what we can or can't do.
20£ for a whole one and 10 for a half I have 1+1/2 no sheds :'(
no power no taps (we have water troughs) no glass allowed (good rule I
think) but as aforementioned it's my bit of england
£14 for the year, taps for water, communal wheelbarrows, rubbish collected (occasionally) and infrequent deliveries of hedge clippings for mulch/paths. Best bit is its enclosed by a big metal fence and padlocked (not aesthetically pleasing but serves a purpose)
Our is £22 for a full plot and £11.00 for 1/2.
It has security fence all round, and running water.
The council doesn't have anything else to do with it, and we don't have loo's or a shop, which is a pity.
Just taken over a plot which has been overgrown for 3 years, so they've given that one to me for a year, as long as it is sorted out.
I must be mad ::)
£20.58 for 10½ rods, mains water, block of brick built sheds, secure fencing/gate, no fires, no livestock, greenhouses/tunnels allowed with written consent.
I pay £8 a year for about a third of a full allotment, no water, no electricity, no manure, nothing. I love it, but I am green with envy at what many people here get for their money. We are not supposed to put sheds up, but blind eyes are turned. There is an old apple tree (possibly Cox, very late ripener) on my plot which shades things out a bit, but I like it very much and resist all attempts to persuade me to get rid of it (how, anyway???).
I would love more space, but the man who runs us says there is a waiting list, in spite of the fact that big allotments either side have been neglected since last spring. He also says he will only add to people's allotments if the new part is directly above or below the one they have! He won't release bits here and there as they become free! Is this reasonable?
£1.60 a pole 80p for OAPs water butts (we asked the town council who own the plot for more so they got everything and hired a mini digger and a work party from the allotment association was arranged and we installed them ourselves) sheds no bigger than 8ft by 10ft greenhouses and polytunnels OK no bonfires after dusk.Plots inspected three times a year with an allotment association committee member for neglect and also for best allotment cup presented at town council annual dinner
I pay £25 per year, run by the council, no loos, water or anything else ! I have been sending gentle emails to the inspector, who is rarely seen, to check out what other allotment holders around the county get for their money - gentle doesn't seem to be working though.
Ours went up from £9 to £13 a year this year- talk about inflation! Don't get anything for that (no water etc), except the council cuts the outer side of the hedge because it's on a public footpath!
Mine is £20 per year. For that we have standpipes (one between 4 plots) from April to Oct, a portaloo (need innoculations before using though!!) and secure fencing with padlocks at each end. :-\
I did have a shed when I took it on but it had no roof and half the larchlap missing. :(
When we were run by the council, the whole place was a mess - overgrown and empty plots being used by locals as a tip! The bounderies were mainly Hawthorn bushes with wire fencing which was all broken.
When we became 'Self Managing' we laid down the condition that the fencing was to be redone first (by the council) and it was with 6' high steel railings.
Now we have got a commitee that keep things running great!
By the way, the council were going to put the rent up to £40 that year and then £70 the following year!! :-\
Forced us to go 'self managing' really.
Donna
Hello, I help run our site, Littleover Lane Allotments, I'm that man they all love to hate the treasurer. Our rent was £10 pa for 300 sq yards but we had to surcharge for water £5pa. So I bit the bullet and got a 50% rent increase to £15 pa from sept 06. We are odd in that we are a limited company and own the site ourselves. We have water, stoned paths and a toilet block with disabled facilities. As rep to the city forum I was informed that the average rent in Derby is £28-30 for this full size plot.
David
:(
We pay just short of £20 per year per plot (£19.80 I think)
Owned by the local council, run by a committee of mostly friendly guys. We have water from april till end of october and can just about do anything or plant anything. Livestock allowed too, in fact our horses and goat live on part of the allotment land that none of the gardeners would use (approx 5 acres in total).
We do have security gates but crime is a problem still, the local youths seem to have worked out when there isn't anybody around and are blase enough to break in during the day!!! We've had some arson problems too and our caravan (on the stables site) was torched a couple of weeks back.
Before we got the plot for growing veggies on the gardeners often helped me out with jobs around the stables in return for manure. Or maybe that was just coz I'm a girl lol
We pay £13.00 per year per member, for that I have two 10 pole plots, a shed, water, we have put in a new Toilet, water dipping baths around the site, tarmac roadway.
Mine is £24.70 for a 200 square metre plot plus £10 for wat which is very close to each plot. There are only 10 plots on the site and I could do with a few more neighbours if anyone is interested in taking a plot.
10m x 50m = £0000000000000000000000 yes 00000000000000 nada
How did you manage that Olive?
We pay £30 per year for our 250m2 plot but have the first 3 months for free to clear it. We have water every few plots, good site security and a site shop. No toilets though so behind the bushes it is ;)
It seems to be pretty much anything goes on the site as long as we don't upset our neighbours
Mines 500m2... I think its free as its something to do with everyone being given eviction notice last year for a new road that is going to be built. But the truth is the road will never be built due to railway bridge and this and that and the other. So since the eviction notice noone has had to pay - equally no one has left either and new people are signing up for plots too! Its privately owned and the woman lives in America - this is all hearsay by the way LOL.
