After chainsawing up a load of logs for our woodburner I have two large bags of very coarse sawdust (more like wood shavings really) - does anybody know the best thing to do with this? Can I compost it?
Hi Gavin,
you could probably compost it, either worked into the main heap a little at a time or on it's own with a little amber nectar to help it along, although you've not really got enough for that. If you save it up until grass cutting starts in earnest then I guess it could go onto the heap with that, the sawdust would dry out the grass and the grass would give nitrogen to the sawdust.
Otherwise a path surface?
BTW -if you're that Gavin welcome back. If you're not welcome aboard :)
thanks for that ;D
(By the way, I'm a different Gavin)
You can't have too many :)
Composting is going to take a while, even mixing it into a compost heap.
Do you know any one who keeps hens as you could donate it as bedding?
