On frequent trips to Greece, I simply adore the dishes of absolutely Huge Butter Beans they serve there. Is it possible to grow a worthwhile crop of Butter Beans in this country or am I wishing for too much ??
well I certainly hope so dingerbell, I have climbing butter beans from Franchi that I'm trying for the first time this year (which are Big but may not be Huge ::)). If you have some dry gigantes bought in Greece, why not give it a go? Or if you'd to try out a few seeds of the Italian ones to join in the experiment then pm me and I'll pop some in the post ;D
Desiree runner beans are indistinguishable from butter beans. I dry all mine for and use them throughout the year.

That's a great tip dj - I use the beans from runner beans too, will have to try Desiree. I see many companies sell it, do you recall where you got yours from?
i thought those beans from greece were called elephant beans!
Did anyone try gigantes?
Mine are running up the poles, a few white flowers so far :D
