Title: are onions/shallots fully hardy ?
Post by: Ricado on March 07, 2006, 19:31:03
just concerned some shallots i put in a couple of weeks ago may be suffering with all the cold weather, how hardy are they ?  I would have thought they should be ok, as some onions planted in autumn have to survive the whole winter.

Relax, they will sit quietly for a while as they develop a strong root system, then you may start to see green shorts in a few weeks.

My shallotts went in in December, sat through all the cold weather, and are just showing now.
