My neighbour missed his potato order this year, and so asked me to put his order in with mine, which I was more than happy to do. I took the opportunity to scrutinise what he had chosen, and something that caught my eye was a 2nd early - Valor. He is trying them for the first time this year so has no knowledge of what they are like, but I decided to order 3 kg at the same time.
My 1st earlies - International Kidney, will probably feed us up until mid September, and the Valor then should keep us going well into November (hopefully).
Can anyone tell me what the Valor are like, and how best to cook them?
For maincrop I have ordered Desiree and Cara, and will replant a few PFA.
I grew these one year in the early days of my allotments, as was told that they didn't get attacked by eelworm so much as some others. This seemed to be true.
They were ok - as I recall, they were a good boiling potato but not so good for roasting and chips. But this is only from memory.
To be honest, didn't go much on the flavour, and haven't grown them since. That could have been due to my methods though, which were a bit hit and miss.
