Title: Pots for blueberries
Post by: caroline7758 on March 06, 2006, 12:27:14
I have just bought two blueberry plants and two pots for them, but I'm worried that the pots are too small. They are 12" diameter. Should I plant them & move them to something bigger later, or get bigger ones at the start?

Either of the following links may have some info.  The Dorset Blueberry site has lots of info on blueberries.

Thanks- two useful sites there- looks like they'll be ok in the pots I've got for now.

Why is it better to pot in smaller pots to start with and move later?
I planted mine in some storage boxes, they are not huge but not small either I hope they are okay in them :-\

Why is it better to pot in smaller pots to start with and move later?

So that the rootball develops compactly, allowing the plant to concentrate on above ground growth.

However blueberries are happy to move from a 6" pot straight to a 12", and then on to a 36" pot in their 4th-6th year.
