Title: Taste of the tropics
Post by: Mrs Ava on March 02, 2006, 11:49:21
As some of you may recall, my indoor banana palm (or herb) fruited last year, but as it was late in the season, the fruits didn't fuuly develop.  However, I have now 10 ripe baby bananas.  They are about 6 inches long, and very sweet and clean tasting.

I have no idea I'm afraid.  Mum bought me the original parent plant when I was a lot LOT younger from a garden centre in one of those little test tubes...don't know if you can still get them.  They are growing in what looks like a sterile agar gel.  Well, zillions of years later they are still growing and spreading and taking over my corner of Essex! ;D

However do you keep producing these spectacular successes, EJ? I'm still drooling at the memory of your pineapple :D

Anything else in the pipeline?

hhmm, not really lish.  I have lots of pineapple plants, so am keeping my fingers crossed we will get 4 or 5 fruits this year.  My passion flower as only ever had one flower, so hoping for more from that this year.  The year is young Lish, the year is young.... ;)

Don't know how I missed this post and would like to add that I envy your skill in growing tender/sub-tropical plants, you certainly know how to apply TLC. ;D

I would guess your Nana is a Dwarf Cavendish with mottle green paddles I had a couple and lost them with lack of TLC :'(

Here's a link to a test tube variety.
