So you could have held it steady?? My wish? For a steady hand!
now why was I expecting to see a picture of Nelson Eddy & Jeanette McDonald?....
that's an amazing picture Tim! is it really the moon?
Wow Tim :)
MM
Looks like a UFO to me, or is that just wishful thinking?

Got a hand-rest tonight - but SO much less virgin. But at least with the first one you got a buy-one-get-one-free??
And who did not get the N&J connection? So many YOUNG people around!!
Great Tim, please keep taking them. :) I love looking at the moon. When I take the dog out last thing at night and the sky is clear I spend half my time looking straight up at the moon and all the stars. One night I'm going to bump into something ???
MM
By popular request. But still haven't mastered manual focus at night.
And no takers yet on the N&J connection? What an unfortunate lot!
Wouldn't be the 1940 film New Moon by any chance, would it? Not illiterate - just didn't know everyone else hadn't got it!
Margi x
Not Nelson Eddy and Jeanette MacDonald and New Moon????
While we're displaying our ignorance, maybe somebody who knows about planets and stuff (rather than plants and stuf) can tell me - why when we see these lovely pics of the new moon is it the bottom right half we see, when this morning the moon was high in the sky but it was the TOP right half I saw? Don't understand...
Thanks to anyone who can explain...
Margi x
Of course - lovely couple!
All I know about the moon is that if it makes a C on the left, then it's Diminishing. If a C on the right, like the curve of a D, then it's inCreasing. Logical??
Lovely pics, Tim. :)
Incidentally, now is a good time, moonwise, to sow seed and plant stuff. Just after New Moon moisture in the earth's crust is moved upwards under pressure from the rising water table. This pressure encourages enhanced moisture absorption by seed and plants and the chances of germination are increased. :)
Must get on with it then!
SO SORRY! - can't think how the term illiterate got in there. You know I didn't mean it?
So is the D waxing or waning (sp?)
Hi Baggy
That I do know - it's waning. Waxing is getting bigger, so if it's decreasing it's waning...

The moon? Well - we all have to start somewhere. One day I'll do an MB one. Brilliant!!

Another view of the moon
Vont.
Ah, yes - but mine are REAL!!
that saturnpic is lovely - I remember the very first time I saw it through a scope - I nearly fell over, it was so exciting. I could really see the rings! Jupiter's fun, too. One day I'll have a back garden that's big enough to get my old 8" scope out into, and then I'll be able to take up my old hobby properly again.

It might not be real, but it sure is beautiful! Thanks Vony...

moonbells, at first when i saw his email I thought it was a trick picture, but he explained what equipment he used, so it had to be real, amazing isn't it :)
The picture was taken over the North Pole.
