The icy wind kept me out of the garden today so I decided to update my records of what I'm growing/planning to grow in my garden this year. I have :
- 18 varieties of shrubs/perennials for the shade and 37 for the sun
- 16 varieties of flowering annuals
- 25 varieties of flowering bulbs
- 14 varieties of fruit, veg and salads
- 24 varieties of herbs
So what I hear you say. Well, I cram all this lot into a space which is approx. 10' x 40'. And there's still nine plants on my wanted list! ;)
I'd love to know if the rest of you are equally deluded when it comes to being realistic about how much you can fit into the space you have or is it just me? ::)

Crumbs, what a good idea - not sure if I know the names or how to spell some of the things, but am guilty of cramming too. In front garden border, (about 25 ft long) have following:
Prunus lusitanica, Wisteria, blueish clematis, Eucalyptus gunnei, ceanothus, Aucuba japonica Crotonifolia, euonymus, Physocarpus Diabolo, Campanulas, Arum dracunculus, Hebe Mrs Winder, Broom, Kerria japonica, Mahonia, Rose of Sharon, Ivy Paddys Pride, Ivy goldheart. They are now around 10 years old and to be honest a bit crowded!
my other half say ill never fit all iv got in to our plot 4 lots of onions leeks 2 types of chiili peppers cauliflowers bell peppers garlic 2 types of potatoes broccoli peas lettice 6 lots of carrots 5 lots of tomaotes french bean broad beans dwarf beans runner beans sweetcorn 2 lots of cabbage spring onions and last for now sprouts im sure there is more or ill get more but for now this is all i can think off

My, Jenny, that's an impressive list. Must be like a jungle I should imagine. ;D Are you really handy with the pruning saw or do you just let them get on with it?
Well Lou Lou, I guess it depends on how many of each you plant. I'm sure you'll be fine and good luck. :)

Erm, yes, tis a bit of a jungle, poor old milkman has to fight his way through - I do have a hack at it occasionally though. This is one of the disadvantages of
not growing things in pots....:)
Why, of course I am Lorna. :) Once the bulbs have died back (after about six weeks) then their pots go to the back with pots of annuals on top. Isn't that normal? It's a great way to get a bit of height at the back and saves messing about with storing the bulbs over the summer. ;D

Georgie I think I may have to do that this year, all those lovely seeds that have been sent to me :)
I've lost count of the times I've bought a plant only to have a job fitting it in when I get home ::)
As for the lottie, I do seem to have gone a bit mad particularly as it's my first year and we haven't got it all dug yet but I keep reminding myself I don't have to sow ALL the seeds ;D ;D
Here goes - broad, runner and French beans, 2 types of beetroot, brussels, 2 types of carrots, cauliflower, courgettes, cucumber, garlic, kale, leeks, 2 types of lettuce, 2 types of onions, parsnips (and guess what Georgie they're called Merlin ::)), peppers, raddish, rocket, spinach, squash, 2 types of sweetcorn, variety of tomatoes and lastly 6 varieties of potatoes giving me well over 100 tubers. What was I thinking of :-\
