I am asked what worked for us. I don't grow the fat ones.
We have had good results from:
Bonica
Long Tom
Slim Jim
Orient Express
Onita
Mohican (white)
Snowy (white)
But I find the long ones, like Long Green Thai - & Macchiaw, now unavailable - the most forgiving.

How much heat is essential? I would like to grow mine outside on the patio. I have a little patio greenhouse that they could shelter in :-\
Glad you asked that, My Lady. I'm the one who nags others to say where they grow things!! I always assume that, by now, everyone knows my doings.
Most is in a cold 'house - although they LOVE heat! The only ones we grew outside (650' up in the Cotswolds) were Macchiaw. But I reckon Thai Green would behave the same. We used 'Dutch Lights' to give protection. I think 10-12 fruit per plant.
It may be too late, but Simpsons - that BRITISH family nursery - do plants. That can take a lot of the hassle out of things. I ALWAYS back up my sowings with their aub & tom plants. To hell with the expense!! I can't afford a lost season.
