Title: FAO CELTIC GROWERS
Post by: Hyacinth on February 23, 2006, 14:21:48
Below, the message I tried to PM you but which I was unable to send :-\

Hiya! Pleased the seeds arrived OK.

I start them all off in seed trays mid-March (same time as I sow beans, etc.) & prick them out to grow on. Did about 150 last year as some went to a fund raising day for our local hospice. Bit of a pain but worth it. They get planted in situ when they're large enough to go.NB smaller plants will be prone to slug damage, but as they grow the slugs seem to leave them along. I save crushed egg shells through the year to surround them as I don't like using pellets. No need for succession sowing, as these will go on until the frosts. I'll occasionally dead-head, but again they flower so prolifically it's not a must-do. Hope this helps - regards, Lishka
