Hi All
Finally our council has offered us compost bins!!!!!! the question is -
Do I purchase the 220Ltr for £4 (Dalek) or the Big 450Ltr for £10?
The 220Ltr I think could be moved around on my little two wheled trolley so does this give it an advantage over its big brother??
Any advice would be most welcome!!
What are the pros and cons??
Cheers
KevB
Ours lets us have up to three 330l dalek bins for £6 each (with free kitchen caddy). The larger bins (the KOMP ones) are more.
I just ordered two! They will hopefully replace my compost heap, which is a typical heap and is impossible to dig out due to the large amount of woody stuff on top.
I was working on the assumption that one's no use as it fills quickly and then where do you put your green waste? I am going for the 'fill one up, leave it and then start on the second while number one cooks' strategy.
Does your council let you have several at that price?

You don't generally need to move the Daleks, they are open bottomed, and it is not really an option. When the thing has been composting away for a while, you just lift it off, and put it in a new spot, and throw the top bit of un-composted stuff back in the bottom, and start again, Will they sell you one of each? I'd do that.

Get a couple of the large if I were you! You'll ALWAYS find stuff to fill them with! One can be added to while the other is composting, then visa versa the next year!
;)
Maybe it's just me, but my theory is that you can never have too many or too big!! If the worst comes to the worst you can always swap them at a later date for something else you really need!!
;D
Agree with previous post - you can never have too many compost bins. You can part-fill big 'uns, but you can't over-fill small 'uns so it would be big 'uns for you every time. I started with two compost bins, now have five, not to mention the two builders bags full waiting for squash (thank you wardy) and bags of leaf mould ... lucky you with your council! ;D
The more the merrier, and the bigger the better. I have three ordinary-sized ones and a big one, and it's not enough.
