Took the kids to the local Tropical house at the weekend. Weather was cold and damp outside, but in the huge house, it was hot and humid!

Oh Emma - what little beauties - and the butterflies are great too ;)

you say 'local tropical house'.....so where would that be then Emma?

knowing the area (as I do) a bit....just wondered!!

Hiya H.P. Long time no speaky ;D It is Tropical Wings in South Woodham Ferrers on the Wickford Road. They have really expanded it over the last couple of years from just being a butterfly house and a few parrots in an aviary to having a reptile house, pets corners, shetlands ponies, goats, red squirrels and in the summer, Meerkats! Loads and loads of birds and bugs and fluffies and it looks as though they have acquired yet more land so I suspect the duck pond which went to make way for the Meerkats is being resited! Well worth a visit, and not toooo badly priced. ;D

What is the lovely, fluffy baby bird with the long beak? It looks like a member of the Kingfisher family. Could it be a Kookaburra?

Yes Pauline, a Kookaburra. They have quite a few of them around the park and they are gorgeous birds. Mind you, it was sooooo bitterly cold they were all fluffed up to keep cosy.

Wow e.j a kookaburra(laughing bird or sometimes cold laughing foul0.Gives me nice memories of my visit 20 years ago to the bush in australia.Have heard and see them in there natural habit and my god they can laugh.
