Title: another cooch query by a newbie
Post by: gtm41658 on February 18, 2006, 19:54:33
Having been on my new lottie today and actually managing to get the fork in, another plot holder told me he's stacking all his cooch and roots as they will rot down in a couple of years and make a fine bit of loam???????
Is he right, as I started to do this today but don't want to waste my time if not

thanks in anticipation

Try the "search" section for "couch"...there are conflicting theories on this!!

Stack it for a millenium.
Boil it and use the water as fertiliser.
Burn it.
Take it to the tip, preferably one which is several miles away.
Dig, remove, repeat for ever....

Have a look!! There are lots of sensible answers on the forum!!

They certainly do rot down if you cover them with black plastic.

A really hot topic!
If you search on 'couch grass' you will find e.g. http://www.allotments4all.co.uk/joomla/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,57/topic,16528.0  ;D

I should take a picture of my soild stacks -loads of couch in those. I'm stacking for 2 years and I put the fitrst years on a bed about a month ago -I'll let you know if the couch springs up. It does seem to be good stuff -better than the clay soild it's going onto anyway.

It helps if you keep the stacks damp. Interleaving with grass cuttings is supposed to help too -but I didn't bother.

You need to keep the light out.
