Hi
I need your help!
I have just got my first allotment ;D and i could do with some advice with the basics.
Having looked around A4A for a week now you seem like the best guy's to ask, any tip's and advice would be gratefully received.
I'm not your guy for doing it from scratch - that was 45 years ago. But while you're waiting, keep searching - there's a mass of information out there, albeit sometimes in snippets like http://www.allotments4all.co.uk/joomla/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,57/topic,16688.0 .
And try 'first allotment' etc.
Or even http://www.allotments4all.co.uk/joomla/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,57/action,search2
Thanks Tim i'll have a look
:) Welcome Digaround. I'm fairly new too and this site is brilliant. Don't be afraid to ask seemingly basic or daft questions if you can't find your answers in the search. Everyone is friendly and helpful.
One piece of advice I was given right at the beginning was 'a little at a time' - especially true with the digging if you are not used to it!
Post some piccies of your plot when you can as we all like to see the before and afters!
Good luck,
Amanda
;D
Hello digaround, welcome to the plot ... ::) People are so knowledgeable and forthcoming with advice on A4a, I hope you have a lot of fun this year on your plot and share your lottying with everyone too.
Take tim's advice and use the search, there's a huge amount of info tucked away in them thar threads.
Remember to post your pictures, bragging among friends is very much encouraged here ;D ;D
Good to see another new member.
Definitely take it one 'spit' at a time ;D You have the WHOLE season to get through!!
Broardies and spuds are the main concern right now. Peas are another.
If you have space indoors you could think about tomato seeds, and chilies, and aubergines, and .... ..... .....
as I said take it easy! ;D
Dig what you can reasonably manage, and put black plastic over the rest. Don't forget to dig the edges in about six inches or you just get roots running in underneath. An alternative if you can get hold of a strimmer is to keep the undug section cut down, which will kill everything except the more amenable grasses.
Thanks to you all.
As soon as i get my head around how i attach pic's to my post's i will put some of my new lotte on.
I agree with Robert, Digaround - it's what I did when I started my plot last year. Plus, get some stuff planted so that it's not just miles of black plastic and strimming ;D Seeing something grow is a real morale booster as it's constant proof that you can do it!
