Keenness has got the better of me and I planted out 45 leeks into toilet roll tubes this morning.
they will start of indoors and be grown on in a cold frame until ready for planting, anyone else started leeks yet?
Yes I put half a packet into a large tub a week ago, and have them on a warm shelf at work. They are an early variety - Tropita.
Nope not started mine yet. Infact not started anything yet. I am going to start in the next few days.

i started mine on the 25th jan a long with a bunch of other stuff all showing now
;D Yooz Guys are making me ichy fingers, I'm trying to control myself into holding back on the sowing as I never sown a stitch ::) by this time last year.
A lottie friend planted out runner bean seedlings begining of March last year and lost the lot to frost, be warned. :o ;D
i cant help it with the girls asking "can we sow some seeds mummy please please please after about 10 of these i give in and pass them the seed box hay it keeps them happy so im happy(till cleaning up time lol ) i dont want them to get board with the veg just yet im hoping not to lose the seedling but if i do i can explain to the girls why we lost them they would of planted plenty more to replace any losses
The leeks are just starting to show, after only a week
The plan is to keep them indoors until they are large enough to thin to 1 per tube (1 put in 3 seeds per tube), then put them in the garage or the coldframe until planting time.
loulou, the girls could grow pea shoots if you wanted to keep them busy, which can be grown and eaten in about 10 days - picture and instructions at http://www.allotments4all.co.uk/joomla/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,57/topic,16918.0
