I know not everyone will have access to the equipment needed to make this, but thought it may be of interest. I bought a unused axe head at a carboot sale for £1.00. I had an old bar of steel about 3/4" diam. and 4 feet long in the shed, and I welded the axe head on one end, so the blade was now the business end, ie. not fixed like an axe, but more like a spear. Why did I do This? I had some trees to remove, and thought that this would be a good way of cutting through roots as I dug the rootball out. The tool more than lived up to my expectations, and is easy to use. Sorry not to be able to show a photo.

Bet it works a treat. Just make sure you have your steel capped boots on!
With an axe on one end and a spike on the other you could do a lot of damage with that.
Thinking of joining the Sealed Knot battle society!

Then you need a billhook on the end of a stick.
Got One!
Car Boot again Old chap selling it called it a 'Yorkshire Slasher', sound like a mass murderer, but great for laying Hawthorn hedges, £5.00, so didn't even haggle.

You must be from Halifax or Haworth!
Between the two!

Hi Gardenantics,
Just found the joys of a 6.5 lb. Mawl.
Having access to self seeding Ash - seasoned/burn on the fire like coal!
Is a Mawl a sledge hammer with an axe for one end?
