Would I be able to plant these in pots at home now to get them going as I forgot to plant them earlier. That way, they get a bit of a start before I get them in the ground - and hopefully the mice will keep away then (yeah right) :-\
I did that last year with some of my broad beans (not aquadaulce though) and they were fine :)
Mine are being germinated in the greenhouse, not as warm, but hopefully still effective, and I don't have the space at home.
Yes they will be fine, I sowed about 80 at the weekend in root trainers.
Some people might now recommend varieties such as Masterpiece Green Longpod as they are more suited to a spring sowing but I have never had a problem with Aquadulce at this time of the year.
If you dont want to use them now they will store until next autumn without a problem.

Have a look here:

Basically they are ideal ways to raise seeds that like a long root run and hate to have their roots disturbed when planted out.
I also like them as they save valuable bench space in the greenhouse and use them for all sorts of crops 9in the spring/summer.
You can also get the same effect by using toilet roll tubes for instance.

i put some directly in the ground on the weekend - to cover for the very few failures i have had within my rows of november sown BBs
Thanks Jerry, the root trainers look very interesting. They also look like they save a lot of space, somthing I'm very short of at the moment.
Ooh I can feel a purchase coming on ...
Jerry, are these root trainers sturdy enough to reuse? or are they too flimsy? (I don't think I could justify the cost if they are not reusable!)

I am in the third year of using them and they get used 4 or 5 times a year too. No problems as yet and you can buy the inserts if you need too.
I do like them and find them very good.
