hi all ,Have got "belle de fontenay & charlotte ready for chitting, I think one is 1st early &1 is second early but dont know which is which? any help appreciated.
Belle de Fontenay First Early. Charlotte second early.
hi, thanks for info,do I chit them at same time?
Well I do. I have all of mine from first early to mainscrop sitting in egg-boxes. THe maincrop ones don't really need chitting but they all arrived at the same time so they're getting the same treatment. ;)
Sorry grawc but Belle is a second early also (or an early maincrop if there is any difference) ;)
Well my understanding was that it's one of those multi purpose ones - you can grow it as a F early to use for salad or leave it as maincrop when it has a much stronger flavour? :-[

I think Larkspur is right and "belle"was classed a early maincrop,Ill chit em up put em in and let em grow.Thats wot I normally do!
What's "chitting"? ???
Setting seed potatoes out in a light frost-free area to sprout. It helps them to get established when you plant them - especially earlies.
So do I plant my first early, second early and main crop all at the same time but dig up at different times?
