Title: Growing 'Latah' and 'Grushovka' Tomatoes
Post by: Jude on February 06, 2006, 20:14:08
Hi
Does anyone have any experience of growing Latah and Grushovka tomatoes ?

Grushovka is a bush tomato and Latah can be grown as vine or bush.

Is it too early to start sowing ?

Thanks for your response, agapanthus/jonny211 are you growing the tomatoes on in a greenhouse or outdoors ?

started them off indoors on windowsill (did'nt have greenhouse then)...when seedlings emerged, put up a length of foil across the bottom foot of the
window to stop them getting leggy, then moved them into heated greenhouse, (managed to get it erected and insulated by then) ;D

I have a big problem with seedlings getting 'leggy'.  Can you explain the foil across the window bit please.

Hi,
Re: Leggy plants
correct me if I'm wrong agapanthus , but I think you mean put the seedings on the windowsill (south facing if possible) and the foil behind them (the shiny side facing the window pane).   So effectively you have the window pane, with the seedlings on the window sill and finally the foil reflecting any light coming in from the window.

Alternatively, you can use two 40-watt, cool-white fluorescent tubes.

Hope this makes sense

That's right Jude....except the window I was using was facing east, but seemed to work ;)
