I am working on an exciting new TV show for BBC1 called 'The National Village Show' and we are looking for keen gardeners of all ages from all over the UK to take part!
We are interested in speaking to anyone who grows their own fruit and vegetables who might want to enter one of our 6 village show heats. We are also interested in hearing from jam makers and cake decorators to name but a few of the categories. The shows will be taking place in 6 different locations throughout the UK. Winners of the heats will be invited to compete for a cash prize in the Grand Final! No previous experience of entering shows necessary - just a passion for gardening!

As I recall, this message was posted before, some time ago, either here or on the BBC forum. It sparked quite a debate on the merits (or otherwise) of taking part in a 'reality' show, with some pertinent questions regarding selective editing, staging, hidden agendas (i.e. not so much a gardening or produce show, more a 'soap').
It would be interesting to know how the final participants would be chosen out of those who apply - by skill, or by 'character'?
I dont see the point to going for this programme after all when they finish making it the will only bin it just look that allotment show they produced One minute it was on the next it was taken off
I'm still not talking to the BBC for the ditching of 'The Big Dig' after just one show!! :-[
There will be a lot of professional/ amateurs out there with their controlled environments who may take them up on it ..I think the majority of us on here grow for our larders,,I cannot see how at our level we could grow for heats and then for finals ..If You are showing You try to grow for the day of the show .That is hard enough with the climate as it is never mind trying to grow for heats as well... I sometimes wonder how much of these reality shows on telly are real and how much of them are engineered..Jim

I received a flyer for the above show and was intrigued to find out more. As secretary of our local allotment society i thought it might be fun to get everyone involved. As i was a little worried that the show would attract only the "professional" growers i decided to speak to a lovely lady at the production company who told me that they were especially keen to get amateurs inolved. I was sent an application form which was simple to fill out and which had a good selection of categories to choose from. I think this show is a good idea. Anything that promotes growing your own produce and owning an allotment patch can't be a bad thing as the number of allotment owners and horticultural societies is severely decreasing.
As for the programme never making it on air i don't think this is the case here. I have seen information about it in various sources and the fact that it features on the bbc website as an upcoming show suggests that it will definately be on
Come on guys, let's give this show a chance and who knows we might have some winners in this forum!
