As requested I've created a spreadsheet with all the information for the pumpkin competition from the 2006 pumpkin competition chat thread. Hopefully this will keep information in one place and prevent it from being lost in the ever growing thread. The link is here:
A4a Pumpkin Competition Growing Information (http://www.acountrygarden.co.uk/thepottingshed/A4a_pumpkin_comp.xls)
There's a column within the spreadsheet to link to photos. As members post photos I'll try to keep the links updated within the spreadsheet as well. If you can't post photos yourself please feel free to email me photos and I'll put them into the spreadsheet, pm me for an email address if you need it.
If you want information updated, changed etc please just ask here, in the chat thread or by pm and I'll make the changes. All suggestions welcome as well.
Good luck everyone and happy growing! :D
that's great.
many thanks. :)
That is brill Jesse.
Neat Jesse! ;D ;D
That spreadsheet is impressive Jesse. If we save the link, ie bookmark it, will that mean we can access the up to date information?
What is the best way to send information to you, it seems the thread will get cluttered if data is passed that way, and if PMs are used, it may overload your intray. Emails? Can Dan help? Come to that, does Dan want to take part? He has already won the picture competition, so while he is on a roll ...
I've renamed the other thread "2006 pumpkin competition chat" so if we all talk about what we're doing in there then I'll update the spreadsheet linked in this thread as and when I get time. I can imagine the chat thread will get quite long over time but that's okay because all the vital information should be kept neatly on the spreadsheet in this thread. If anyone wants to email me photos if they can't post them or any other information then pm me and I'll give you my email address. I might ask Dan to make this thread a sticky so the link to the spreadsheet stays at the top of the Pumpkin 'tastic forum.
excellent plan, tks J

That is excellent Jesse. Don't quite know what I am growing yet, but I am trying to get some seeds called "Mammoth", ;D in the next week. Thanks for all your hard work. :) busy_lizzie
Jesse, being a bit thick here....... do I add my name to the list then save the changes when prompted to do so?
Richard you won't be able to make changes, either pm me or post in the pumpkin chat thread and I'll update the spreadsheet for everyone. :)
Thank you for your hard work.
The type of pumpkin we're trying to grow is jack o'lantern.
Planted on the 22nd March.

Bump. :)
Can we make this thread sticky?
Jesse, Could you update my info. My competition pumpkin, "mammoth" was sown on 25th April and 3 out of 4 have germinated now. Thanks! busy_lizzie
All done :)
Jesse forgot to tell you my pumpkin seed ( Hundredweight) was sown on 18th May and are now growing on well in the greenhouse
hi, don't know if it's too late to enter but if not here's my stats:
Dils Atlantic x 2, both sown may 1st and transplanted out June 3rd
Baby Boo x 1, sown roughly may 28th and planted out June 28th
;D
Hope I'm not too late!! Many thanks. :-*
I've updated your details Jokerman, welcome to the competition :)
Update:21st July and letting ONE fruit start its growth, picking all others off till now(about 60).Checking for ones sneaking up on me & found 21lb er! Cut it off as vine groove on base, leaving my ONE to grow. Now cricket ball size...
Can anyone get onto the spreadsheet????? seems to have gone AWOL :'(
New one went funny?
Letting them do as they please now, vine covering a third of the plot. Just gonna see what happens now.
Hope for a bigger than last year but not holding my breath on a bigger than 10 stone...................... :P
Hi Jesse
Maybe you can help us weare the National Fruit Show which is a Trade Show for Commercial Fruit Growers and takes place in October at the Agricultural Showground in Kent. This year organisers along with the many traditional top and soft fruit competitions have a competition for amateur growers of pumpkins. The pumpkin with the biggest girth will win £200 and be presented with the cheque on Wed 18 Oct 2006. Could you spread the word. Info can be found at www.nationalfruitshow.co.uk
Oh Damm it!!!
Forgot to photo mine and measure, it was 73lb
Just given it away to Infants school for harvest festival!!!
It the competition on next year???
Secretary, your link doesn't work for me.
Andy, I'm sure there'll be another comp next year if someone volunteers to organise it. Shame you forgot to photograph it, can you not get back to the school and get a piccie? :)
It was ugly!
I rushed to cut it and try to clear plot due to honeymoon/wedding next week.
Next year will try harder ;D
