Title: Rostova Tomatoes
Post by: adam13 on February 05, 2006, 16:07:07
HI, I have Bought some Rostova Tomato seeds from a company in america (not avalible to the public yet and will proberbly never will)

Rostova Tomato ( Sunset's Red Horizon )
Introduced in 2001, , this variety is known as "Rostovskaya Krasno Ispolin Tomat" in Russia, which literally means "Red Giant Tomato of Rostov". The Rostova is an outstanding tomato variety native to Southern Russia with wispy upper vines similar to the popular Anna Russian tomatoes and thick foilage at the base. The Rostova Tomato was introduced to the West by Nikolai Peplenov who is a simple backyard gardener living in Portland, Oregon. Nik is originally from Rostov City, one of the most fertile areas of the Rostov Don region of Southern Russia. When Nik immigrated to the United States in 1999 he brought his favorite tomato seed with him, which included this variety. We were lucky enough to secure a good quantity of the original Russian seed from Nik and thus far, have been the only one lucky enough to do so.

Our Rostova were by far, our #1 variety for 2001 and 2002 and has been a hot seller( no longer avalible to the public). We think it will be a very popular tomato variety in the future. Of our extensive Tomato varieties, the Rostova is the true gem among them. They are not only very early producers, but are extremely tolerant to frost. Our 2001 Rostovas were not only the first to produce, but were also the last to produce during 2001 and lasted well into November. Last but not least, the Rostova are heavy producers of HUGE pink-red, meaty, typically globular (a few may be Oxheart shaped) fruits that are the size of saucers! 85 to 90 days to maturity.
Mabye next year i will save some seeds and give anybody who wants some have some
thanks
adam

:( Adam, a bit mean to tell us about these amazing Russian beauties without having any spare seed.  I hope you will have plenty of seeds for next season, they sound spectacular. Please put me on your list. Good luck with this season and think of me with my inferior western varieties... ;D

£5/seed for black krim, you're joking right.

You can buy them all over the place for about about £1.80/20 seeds.
