Yes, I planted some in pots and root trainers last year and moved them when the had leaves an inch or 2 long.
No problems at all.

Yes, the following suggests globe beetroot is the most likely to succeed. I have never transplanted myself, so cannot comment on how successful it is in reality.

Was sceptical when first told this could be done, but did it last year, one or two seeds per module, tiny modules, and it worked ok. You shouldn't leave them to get big though, or they won't transplant well.
I think the reason most dont think it works is they think you may damage the root.
But the actual beet is a swollen stem I believe so transplanting should not damage it in any way if you handle it properly. Modules/pots make it even more easy.

I sowed direct last year but also filled a seed tray.
The direct sowing got slugged so I dug the ones out of the seed tray at about 1 1/2 inches pulled them apart and planted. Had a great crop. Will just use seed trays this year as it was much easier and required no thinning. After the initial planting the beetroot flopped and I thought they were gonners but they bounced back ok.

BTW used boltardy if this makes a difference, I'm trying some white ones this year as well!

I always transplant the thinnings of my beetroot beds and it has always been successful. They look a bit sad and wilted for a short time but they always pick up and go on to do very well. busy_lizzie
I have done this with chard and lettuce and have had no problem. Infact I have had a better crop sometimes doing it this way so yes you can transplant beetroot. Like mentioned before they do look a little erm dead when you first put them in but water them and leave them and pray for rain then come back a few days later and if the slugs aint eaten them they should be as healthy as anything.

i sowed in a seed tray last year the ones with indiviual segments and got very good results ,prick them out when they get about 3 or 4 leaves, i did nt get to see how big they got as i like mine young and tender, they definitley work with globe variety
Water to drowning point before moving and it is even more successful.
I always sow beet & chard in plugs.

Never had success with beetroot so going to try this way, i have loads of root trainers :)
I have grown my beetroot (bolthardy) in trays for the last three or four years, transplanting them when they have four leaves. I’ve had no trouble growing very large beetroot.

Some people have leather settees and coffee tables in their living rooms and wear slippers!
My living room is full of seed trays and I wear wellies :D

Trixie - I love your comments - this sounds like me ;D my kitchen has compost, etc in it... and I was sat on the floor earlier planting seeds... I was sawing up guttering in there earlier and some guttering of peas is now planted in there, ready for puuting into cloche tomorrow!!!

What welcome news for me - thanks, gunnerbee, for asking! I am a hopeless thinner as I always grudge throwing away "good" seedlings - so now I won't any more! Am going to sow some in modules as well for the first sowing. I do love learning something new!!
Was bemoaning the fact that our spare bedroom hadn't got "an identity" (guess who has been watching makeover programmes on tv ::)) but Mr W reassured me that it is the Allotment Annexe with the card tables, bookshelves etc all full of propagators and seed trays - most useful room in the house.........
