Title: Wet plot
Post by: redcow on February 03, 2006, 10:22:28
I have a sloping plot and the bottom half is very, very wet. Any ideas on what could be planted there????

Only had the plot for 6 months and grew everything at the top last year.

I would try squashes as they like alot of water and if we have rain in summer then it would drain down to the squashes.

Squashes =
Pumpkins
Gourds
Marrows and Caugettes

Also try runner beans as they like allot of moisture.
These are planted out in may when all frosts have passed.

Could you not build some raised beds there Redcow?  This would help to  elminate the problem.  Our plot is at the bottom of a slope too and we have had similar problems with flooding.  In our tricky areas we have raised beds and they have worked very well and haven't curtailed our choices of what to grow.  :) busy_lizzie

Agree with lizzie and snail! Raise up some beds, never tread on the soil, and grow water-loving plants (cress, anyone?). Lucky you, I dreamed of a boggy bed last night into which I was lovingly planting squash ... ;D

Will attempt some raised beds when the weather picks up.
