Title: funny round circle marks on my potatoes ...
Post by: mc55 on February 01, 2006, 18:06:05
help ... just got my main crop potatoes from Wilkinsons (Desiree) and notice that they appear to have little round raised circles on most of the potatoes ... are they infected, can I use em, or should I take them back ?

Could you post some photos so we can see what these circles actually look like?

From the description, it sounds like they've got a bit of scab.

Harmelss, but no use if you want exhibition spuds.  It's endemic in my soil (chalk) and last year I reduced its effect greatly by basically burying my seed tubers in acidic horse manure!

Some of my seed pots have it too, but I figure I can't avoid it anyway, so what the ehck.  ;)

Certified seed potatoes should be free from disease ,It the raised rings area brown and scaly like warts  then it is scab take them back ..If not it may be where the spruts are coming from .... If they are supplying seed tatts with scab We may as well save tatties from our own crop that don't have scab ....cheers jim
